Associate Professor in the Department of Cellular Biology of the University of Malaga and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology of the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. She obtained a degree in Biology in 2003 and PhD from the University of Malaga in the area of neuroscience in 2009. She has carried out research stays at Sanofi (France), the University of Seville, and the University of Applied Sciences (Switzerland). From 2010 to 2013, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Neurology, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and from 2013 to 2019, she was appointed as a professor. From 2019 to 2024 was a Ramon y Cajal Investigator at the University of Malaga. She has published more than 50 scientific articles in high impact journals and presented her work in more than 100 presentations. She is a reviewer and editor of several scientific journals and a reviewer for the Carlos III Health Institute, the National Institutes of Health (USA) and the Alzheimer’s Association, among others. In addition, she has received awards for her teaching (Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award) and as a mentor (Excellence in Neuroscience Mentoring Award). She is a member of the Institute of Biomedicine of Malaga (IBIMA) and the Center for Networked Biomedical Research on Neurodegenerative Diseases (CIBERNED), as well as the immediate past chair of the Alliance of Women Alzheimer’s Researchers.

Laura has a degree in Biology and a Master’s in Biomedicine. She is a PhD student at the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Malaga. Her doctoral thesis focuses on the study of the effect of depression in adulthood on the development of Alzheimer’s disease. She has completed predoctoral stays at the MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, USA) and the University of Porto (Portugal).

Ines received her BSc degree in Biochemistry and MSc in Neuroscience. She is a MSc student at the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Malaga. Her work focuses on the study of amyloid proteins spreading in Alzheimer’s disease.
